Samsung Galaxy S II Details and Review

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is Samsung’s latest android phone featuring a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. OLED dis¬plays will generally exhibit deeper blacks than almost any other dis¬play technology. I’m not a fan of colors that pop since that could simply mean overblown colors, but in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S II a most-welcome development is a set¬ting called BackgroundEffect, which allows you to control saturation levels. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S II doesn’t resemble an iPhone 3GS rip-off. It’s an iPhone 4 rip-off instead. Thanks to the 4.3-inch display, this is a large handset indeed. But although it has a broad footprint, it’s extremely thin, measuring a mere 8.49mm thick nearly a whole millimeter thinner than the iPhone 4. The very bottom portion of the S 2′s back is slightly thicker than most of the phone, which gives the impression that the back curves inwards slightly, even though in reality it’s flat. It feels very comfortable in your palm largely due to the fact that its plastic chassis makes it very light.

The Samsung Galaxy S II has a 1.2GHz processor that is more than capable of the tasks it has to carry out. We found that browsing the Internet and watching videos were no problem for thissmartphone. It can also seek through video in real time with ease and zoom in and out using the built-in gyro, a cool but unnecessary feature. With a dual core 1.2 GHz processor this phone is exceptionally fast. It is a speedy device, even with ten applications open the S II shows no signs of slowing down. The super AMOLED plus screen is a feast for the eyeballs and colours are bright and literally pop out at you.

Navigation around the screens is reasonably easy on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but when compared with HTC’s Sense overlay on Android the Samsung phone just doesn’t compete on its user interface. This offers native Flash support and an updated version of Google Maps. As with all 2.x versions of Android, you can download and open from the Android Market.

The 8MP camera on the phone produced great results with bright and sharp photos. The camera is also capable of recording high definition video. The S 2′s display doesn’t have the highest of resolutions it’s a 480×800-pixel panel, so it’s not as pin-sharp as the iPhone 4′s 640×960-pixel screen. The large 4.2-inch display uses Super AMOLED Plus technology, which we found impressive and lends itself to typing on the onscreen keyboard. The screen is bright and it’s a great size for browsing the Internet and is well suited for watching videos.

Stick a fingernail under it and that class peels away, containing a beefy 1,750mAh battery and a slot for a SIM card. Beneath the battery is a microSD card, a measly 2GB that certainly puts off any pretenses of this being a properly high-end device. But, that’s not all the storage this has to offer. Internally the phone has a 2GB hunk for apps, a separate 13GB slice for… whatever, and then the microSD card as well, which gives you a grand total of right about 16GB in three partitions.

I’m very impressed by the battery life on the Droid Charge and we have to say we’ve been even more enamored here. The Infuse has a slightly larger, 1,750mAh battery pack nestled inside and it easily powered us through a day of demanding use.

My verdict  in Samsung Galaxy S II Review post, you definitely cannot go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S 2 in any way you look at it. It’s astonishingly fast, with a gorgeous display, a good camera and a winning operating system. I awarded Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone my Best Buy award and it’s not hard to see why.
