Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 Mega-Leak Reveals Entire Plot, Release Date

With a cash cow as fat and absurdly profitable as Call of Duty, you'd think Activision would be a bit more excited about its next first-person assault on your wallet. Despite that, for whatever reason, the publisher's remained oddly silent about the game, leaving players in agonized suspense about which dude will be shot in the face/exploded/shot in the face with an explosion next. You can breathe easy now, though, because The Internet managed to dig up dirt on, well, pretty much everything.

Kotaku's spoken with “multiple sources” about all things Modern Warfare 3, and – from the sound of things – it sure is going to be an entry in the Call of Duty franchise. The site even managed to sleuth and subterfuge its way into almost all of the game's major plot points and locations, which we're opting not to post for fear of spoilers. Really, though, you can probably guess what you're in for: Guys shoot other guys, improbably end up half-way across the world, and then shoot different other guys. Somewhere in there, you'll find answers to most of Modern Warfare 1 and 2's major questions and play as two new characters.

Multiplayer, meanwhile, mostly appears to be taking an “If it ain't broke and is almost single-handedly holding your entire multi-million dollar corporation together, don't fix it” approach, opting to add new maps, tweaks, and two new Special Ops modes known as Survival and Mission.

Also of note: As suggested in previous reports, it seems that Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software are helping a wounded Infinity Ward limp across the development finish line.

Somewhat shockingly – given the gaming world's passionate love affair with the phrase “we don't comment on rumors and speculation” – Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling gave the following reponse:

“A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I’d wait for the real reveal.”

In a similar spirit, Activision went ahead and released a series of Modern Warfare 3 teaser trailers, because – at this point – why not? Also, because no one in the entire world is capable of keeping secrets anymore, the game's already been pegged with a probable release date of November 8. Keep your eyes peeled for Activision's official blowout in the coming weeks.
