It has been reported that Nokia will use Dual-core ST-Ericsson chip for its Windows Phone. In the past Microsoft has asked cell phone manufacturers to use the same chipsets, display size and number of camera megapixels.
Bozotti Vice Chairman ST’s former wireless business said:
“Even after the Microsoft deal ST-Ericsson continues to have very close relations with Nokia, and will be an important supplier for Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 phones.”
The chipset that will be used by Nokia Windows Phone 7 is also installed in the Samsung Infuse 4G Smartphone. In 2012 Nokia will release 12 such windows Phones. U8500 is all time favorite of Nokia and people will surely like this chipset in new smartphones of Nokia.
Boss Carlo Bozotti said:
“Nokia will use ST-Ericsson hardware to power at least some of its Windows Phones. The dual-core U8500, a long-time Nokia favorite, is touted as the first such system-on-chip to appear, with its successors helping to populate Nokia’s expansive WP lineup in 2012. The bad news is that ST-Ericsson’s legacy products are dropping off faster than expected”
Now we also have to see what ST-Ericsson thinks about giving its chipset to Nokia.
ST-Ericsson said:
“It is collaborating with seven of the top nine handset makers on devices and expects accelerated sales of new products in the second half of the year. It aims to break even during the second quarter of 2012.”
We all are very hopeful that this will greatly enhance the sales of Nokia Windows Phone and will give new dimensions to the world of smartphones.
