ARMA 3 Officially Announced for 2012

ARMA 3 Officially Announced for 2012

The highly realistic military simulator, ARMA, is back in the third installment from Bohemia Interactive. Players of ARMA 3 will be able to experience new multiplayer features and single player campaigns when the game ships Q2 of 2012.

Developers say that ARMA 3 will show off the highest detailed scenery to date. Like the previous games in the series, ARMA 3 gives players a vast expanse of land to conduct their missions however they choose. Every bit of the scenery is carefully and strategically placed by the developers.

The single player campaign will prove all decisions have consequences in the story’s open-ended type gameplay. According to the ARMA 3 website, the game will take place after years of “intense warfare against Eastern armies” leaves Europe as the “last stand for the battered NATO forces.”

The story will focus around a NATO mission to seize a “well-guarded military secret” in a mission dubbed “Operation Magnitude.” A small group of Special Forces and Researchers are sent in behind enemy lines, but things go awry.

Washed ashore on a hostile island, players will assume the role of Captain Scott Miller who is still set on carrying out the mission, facing “the dangers of modern warfare, an unforgiving environment, and the consequences of his own decisions…”

The game will feature the PhysX system that will enhance the overall animations of the vehicles, characters, and player interactions with the environment.

The battlefield is constructed from real-world geographical data taken from a Mediterranean Island, and the game’s developers seem to pride themselves in making ARMA 3’s visuals as true-to-life as possible. With the advanced graphics seen in all other games in the series, it is hard to believe they can get any better.

Although the graphics are looking to be outstanding, they will come at a very high price, and only those who possess the mightiest of computers will be able run the game. Luckily for gamers, however, they will have a year to upgrade their systems.

The ARMA series is known for a strong focus on tactics and helped define a new level of realism for the video game industry. ARMA 3 looks like it will carry that torch and will feature all-new weapons and vehicles.

It will also continue offering players the ability to edit and expand the game through the use of mods. Previous games in the ARMA series saw some impressive mods, including the acclaimed Project Realty mod.
